Social Media: Good, Bad or Ugly
A Frank Conversation
Is the use of social media right for you and your organization? For many, the answer is “No.” For most, it’s “Maybe.”
With almost 15 years building web systems, Steve Lee has a unique perspective of both success and failure. He will share his experiences and answer all your questions from a practical, business and communications POV.

A bit about Steve...
Among interactive company CEOs, Steve Lee is not exactly normal. For one thing, he has a lot moregray hair than you would expect. But don’t think that just makes him the old guy – decades of businessexperience combined with techno understanding make for a vibrant combination.
In the early 80’s, Steve was a tech fanatic long before the Internet rearranged our world. There’s no doubt that he has an insatiable thirst for exciting new technologies. Yet, he’s also got a veteran’s business eye for what works and what doesn’t. That’s how he helps senior executives wade through the latest interactive and marketing trends to create clearer visions of their business and communications needs.
Steve boasts a varied (and checkered) background in strategic business planning, marketing, communications and technology over the last 30 years. Top national and regional brands like Blockbuster, RadioShack, Payless Shoe Source, Mrs Baird’s, Whataburger, TXU, and Ebby Halliday, REALTORS® have turned to Steve’s counsel on issues far broader than the web, but how to use all aspects of today’s Internet technologies and techniques. It’s rare to find someone with both business
and technical savvy that can sit and advise comfortably in the boardroom.
Before establishing QuickSilver Interactive Group, Steve founded the Mercury Technology Group and was Senior Vice President of Halcyon Associates, a Dallas-based marketing and public relations firm. Before that he was U.S. chairman and sat the board of England-based software pioneer Uniplex, was international marketing director for UCCEL Corporation and was an officer of the advertising agency
GSD&M of Austin, Texas.
A Fort Worth, Texas native and graduate of The University of Texas at Austin, Steve served six years as a member of the Public Relations Society of America's (PRSA) National Accreditation Board. He was Chairman of the Public Relations Foundation of Texas and President of the Texas Public Relations
Association (TPRA).
He has received numerous awards for his professional and civic work including the Golden Spur from the Texas Public Relations Association (TPRA), the highest personal honor a practitioner can receive in the State of Texas, and the Norman P. Teich Award for outstanding philanthropic activity, from the Public Relations Society of America in Dallas. He is the youngest person to be honored with an Honorary Life Membership by TPRA.
Steve is also an accomplished – and sometimes irreverent – speaker. He has spoken to literally hundreds of groups on topics ranging from ethics to planning and a myriad of technology subjects – web development, online research, blogs, podcasts, social media, etc.
Some of the groups to which Steve has spoken include:
Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), National Conferences
American Advertising Federation, National Conference
Event and Arena Marketers Association, National Conference
VHA National Conference
Texas Association of Realtors, State Conference
Keep Texas Beautiful, State Conference
Texas Convention and Visitors Bureaus, State Conference
Realty Alliance, National and Regional Conferences
Texas Public Relations Association (TPRA), State Conferences
Florida Public Relations Association (FPRA) State Conference
American Marketing Association PRSA, IABC, WICI and other luncheons and workshops
When away from the office, you’ll find him shooting photography, a vocation that began when he was a starving college student writing for the Rolling Store and handling advance work for the rock band, Jefferson Airplane. His rock concert photos of Led Zeppelin, The Who, Deep Purple, Heart, Steve Miller, Jefferson Airplane and Starship and other bands, have been published and purchased for decades (http://www.shutterfly.com/pro/LeeShots/rockshots) -- but that’s a whole different story.
